Why a general-purpose chatbot gets card prices wrong

Ask any AI assistant what a card is worth without a connector and you get a number assembled from training data. The model is not lying; it genuinely has an impression of what that card traded for, formed whenever its data was collected. For a market that reprices every week on an injury, a playoff run or a print run, an impression is not a price.

The tell is that the answer never comes with a date. A live lookup can say what the value is as of now and what it did over the last thirty days. A recalled one cannot, so it does not.

What a price actually needs to be specific to

• The exact parallel. A base and a Silver of the same card are different cards with different markets.
• The grade. Raw, PSA 9 and PSA 10 are three separate prices, and the spread between them is the whole reason grading exists.
• The grader. A BGS 9.5 and a PSA 10 do not trade at the same number.
• Recency. A 30-day trend tells you whether today's number is a floor, a spike, or the middle of a slide.

Checking a price from a photo

Card identification is the hard half of card pricing — get the parallel wrong and every number after it is wrong. It knows what you own

A connector that can only look cards up is answering a question anyone could ask. The questions collectors actually have are about their own cards: what is my collection worth now, which of these is worth grading, what did I pay for this.
